I tend to disagree: If you look at SAP HANA Cloud Platform, SAP's PaaS offering, then it is a purely Java approach.
So you could develop UI5 applications and use open, best-practice solutions like Git as a code repository and Gerrit's code review system, JSLint for code quality checks, Grunt for automated tasks, etc, most of which are by definition outside the ABAP realm
And if you don't use Gateway/OData but REST/JSON instead, then you don't even need an ABAP stack ;-)
